Dear Sir
I wish to register comment on MCU15/0082
The proposed Building on the marked site in Emerald Street will enhance the perception. of both residents of
Cooroy District and visitors. that Noosa / Cooroy is a sophisticated and mature City in hosting a dedicated
facility of this standard. Many like Groups enjoy housing in Historical Buildings of the necessary standard or in
Council Chambers or Libraries where the necessary space and standard are available.
Unfortunately old wooden buildings are unsuitable. making dedicated premises mandatory .
The Cooroy-Noosa Genealogical & Historical Research Group is held in high esteem by Family History Groups
throughout Australia and UK for the past ten years.
Its operation has been made difficult through not having received assistance in providing a public service.
resulting in the need to operate in a sub-standard building until such time as a suitable location became
available and sufficient funds accumulated to build a facility of the high standard that is necessary for the
preservation of historical documents, photographs and small objects of local historical interest.
Both these factors have been attained and the Members of the Group are hopeful that the Councillors will
support the realization of this dream - for both the Group and the Citizens of Noosa ands District .
Might I put before you my own concern that the changing demography of our country is making genealogy
and the preservation of the related documentation even more important than previously.
With Pomona the original seat of Noosa and Coo roy the centre of several primary and secondary industries in
past years we are fortunate that many of the original Families are still represented in the area and support their
heritage enthusiastically - EG the continuing very successful bi-annual " Back to Cooroy Week" .
The photographs displayed there, being silver on high quality paper. have stood the test of time but the
revolutionary shift to digital imaging may lead to much of the current" history being lost to posterity .
The Group already has numerous Computers and a Digital Printer that can assist with this if the images are
received but a great challenge exists in selection and retention from the myriad of digital pictures now being
continually generated .
The necessary controlled environment for Computer operation In the new facility will greatly assist in this new
challenge.
yours sincerely
for myself & Mrs Duffie d .We are both Members of the Group in addition to being active in other avenues in the
Community
