1. Introduction
This report is in response to a request by Project Urban for a road traffic and environmental noise
assessment of a proposed residential development located at 2 Bottlebrush Avenue, Noosa Heads
(also known as 75 Noosa Drive, Noosa Heads). To facilitate the assessment, unattended noise
monitoring was conducted for the following:
• Road traffic noise levels from Noosa Drive to establish noise impacts to the development.
• Ambient noise levels were measured in the vicinity of nearby residences to determine the
criteria for onsite and offsite activities.
Based on the results of the assessment, recommendations for acoustic treatments are specified in
this report.
2. Site Description
2.1 Site Location
The site is described by the following:

as follows:
A. Single storey commercial premises (restaurants) along the southern site boundary of the
site. Assumed operating hours of the various restaurants operate between 7am and
Midnight (according to Google Maps).
B. Commercial premises located at 4 Bottlebrush Avenue.
4.3 Unattended Noise Monitoring
4.3.1 Road Traffic Noise Levels
A Rion NL42 environmental noise monitor was placed at 71 Noosa Drive, 12m from the nearest lane
to measure road traffic and ambient noise levels. The monitor was located in a free field position
with the microphone approximately 1.4 metres above ground surface level. The noise monitor was
set to record noise levels between the 18 and 25 May 2023.
The environmental noise monitor was set to record noise levels in “A” Weighting, Fast response
using 15-minute statistical intervals. Ambient noise monitoring was conducted generally in
accordance with Australian Standard AS1055:2018 ‘Acoustics – Description and measurement of
environmental noise’. Refer to Figure 2 for noise monitoring location.
4.4 Attended Monitoring
4.4.1 Road Traffic Noise
In addition to the unattended noise monitoring, attended noise measurements of the Noosa Drive
were conducted on 25th May 2023. The Norsonic Nor140 Sound Level Meter was located
approximately 3 m from the Noosa Drive with the microphone positioned 1.5 metres above ground
level. Noise measurements were conducted in “A” weighting “Fast” response, 15 minute statistical
interval which recorded the LA10 (used to calculate the 18 hour LA10).
For the attended and unattended noise monitoring locations refer to Figure 2.
4.4.2 Offsite Activities
Attended measurements were conducted on the 25th May 2023 to determine the noise impacts
associated with the offsite activities. The assessed activities are associated with any offsite activity
including mechanical plant units which may impact the site, with the results presented in Section
5.2.
The noise measurements were conducted utilising a Norsonic NOR140 sound level meter measured
in 1/3 octave bands. All noise measurements were conducted generally in accordance with Australian
Standard AS1055 'Acoustics – Description & Measurement of Environmental Noise'.

7. Road Traffic Assessment
Road traffic noise associated with the surrounding road network was assessed at the development
over a ten-year planning horizon.
7.1 Traffic Volumes
Road traffic volumes were conservatively predicted using the measured Road Traffic Noise due to
the unavailability of road traffic data for Noosa Drive. Other road traffic data (heavy vehicle
percentage and associated 10-year horizon growth rate) were conservatively assumed based on
similar projects completed by Acoustic Works.
Road traffic data is provided in Table 6.

7.2 Road Traffic Noise Verification
To ensure the CoRTN noise model is accurate, a verification model of the predicted LA10(18hr) was
created and compared to the measured noise level. The CoRTN method allows a 2dB(A) variation
from the predicted and measured level, if the variation exceeds 2dB(A) a correction to the predicted
level is required.

8.3 Offsite Activities to Onsite Receivers
During site investigation, offsite activities were not audible at the proposed development due to
screening of the building and road traffic noise, therefore modelling of offsite activities were
undertaken to account for potential impacts of the surrounding commercial and retail. Table 16
presents the predicted noise impacts from the nearest commercial premise to the proposed
development. The predicted noise impacts of the offsite activities are compared against the internal
noise requirements of the EPP Acoustic Quality Objectives as shown in Table 12.

9. Recommendations
9.1 Road Traffic and Offsite Noise
Acoustic façade treatments are required to minimise noise from road traffic and offsite noise from
the neighbouring commercial premise. The dominant noise source, road traffic, is driving the
recommendation is listed for each noise-affected room.
9.1.1 Glazing
The minimum glazing treatments are presented in Table 13, with the installed glazing system to
comply with the following:
• The minimum glass thickness specified shall not be reduced regardless of the Rw
performance of the glazing system.
• If compliance cannot be achieved with the minimum Rw ratings, the glass system shall be
upgraded until compliance is achieved.
• Glazing specified with acoustic seals requires a Q-lon seal or an equivalent product, mohair
seals are not acceptable.
• The glazier shall provide NATA test reports on request to verify compliance with the minimum
Rw ratings. Generic reports are not acceptable.

9.2 Onsite Activities
Noise impacts at the nearby sensitive receiver locations are predicted to comply with the nominated
criteria for all time periods on the condition the following recommendation are implemented:
• All glazing associated with the onsite restaurant shall be upgraded to achieve Rw32 with the
glass to be a minimum thickness of 10.38 laminate glass.
• Outdoor dining shall cease between the hours of 10pm to 7 am with any openable windows
or doors for the restaurant to remain closed except for the purposes of ingress or egress to
the restaurant.
• Amplified music will only be played within the inside of the restaurant, no speakers shall be
located withing the external areas. Noise limits from amplified music shall be limited to
83dB(A) when measured at a distance of 1 metre from the speaker. We recommend a
compliance assessment is undertaken in accordance with OLGR requirements before the
restaurant is operational to determine maximum allowable noise levels.
• As noted in Table 13, all units will comply with the minimum glazing thickness of 10.38mm
laminate glass achieving a minimum Rw 35. As noted Section 9.1.2 all units onsite will require
the provision of alternative ventilation to allow window and door to be closed.
9.2.1 Onsite Mechanical Plant
No information regarding mechanical services was available at the time of the assessment. We
recommend that any new mechanical plant is designed to comply with the noise criteria stated in
Section 6.2 with an assessment by qualified acoustic consultant to be conducted prior to installation.
9.2.2 Waste collection
We recommend that waste collection be conducted in accordance with the surrounding residential
properties with daytime hours of 7am to 6pm.
