Fauna Management Plan v2 NCES REF: J000488 215 David Low Way, Peregian Beach Assessment Benchmarks Response landscaping that provides food, shelter and movement opportunities for koalas. * The clearing of native vegetation on premises must be carried out in a way that ensures— • Koalas have enough time to move from the area being cleared without human intervention; and • Links between koala habitats are maintained to allow koalas to move from the area being cleared; and • A tree is not cleared if— o a koala is present in the tree; or o the crown of the tree overlaps another tree in which a koala is present; and • A non-juvenile koala habitat tree is only cleared under the guidance of a koala spotter. Also, for premises larger than 3ha— • The clearing must be carried out in stages, with each stage involving the clearing of— o if the total area to be cleared is 6ha or less—no more than 50% of the area; or o if the total area to be cleared is larger than 6ha—no more than 3ha, or 3% of the area, whichever is greater; and • Clearing must not be carried out on the premises between each stage of clearing for at least 1 period starting at 6p.m. on a day and ending at 6a.m. the following day. 3.4 Habitat Connectivity The Queensland Globe satellite imagery was reviewed to assess the extent of vegetation surrounding the site which has the potential to facilitate dispersal opportunities for terrestrial fauna species. The imagery indicates that the site has direct connectivity to areas of vegetation and high habitat value to the west (Council Reserve and National Park) (refer to Plate 6). Connectivity and fauna passage in an east – west direction is unlikely due to the commercial (IGA and Hotel) and residential dwellings to the east of the site which pose a barrier to movement in this direction. Connectivity / fauna movement through the site in a north-south direction is also unlikely due to the lack of habitat / groundcover on the site, a new carpark under construction north of the site and Di-Hurst Oval. There is potential for connectivity / fauna passage in a north-south direction immediately adjacent to the site running along the western boundary through the Council Reserve (refer Plate 6). 2019 9
