PROPOSED RENOVATIONS
2 ARAKOON CRESCENT, SUNSHINE BEACH
Text Figure 11: Geological model of the site and high dune, including extreme storm event scenario
Although the extreme storm case does not appear to impact the subject site, and an applied 28 line from the
dune toe does not intersect the ground surface, to assess the FOS against instability for the proposed
development numerical modelling has been undertaken considering the existing dune slope.
A surcharge load of 5 kPa was applied across the site and crest of the dune to the eastern boundary to
replicate future landscaping. Building loads for the proposed residence and ancillary structures will be
transferred by a piled footing system into the natural medium dense (or denser) sands at depth and will not
surcharge the ground surface, thus have not been included in the models.
Soil shear strength was based upon effective parameters which were estimated based on our interpretation
of the subsurface investigation results, while also considering the values recommended for similar materials
in Appendix D of Australian Standard AS4678-2002 Earth Retaining Structures. Adopted soil parameters
are shown on the Slope/W output presented in Text Figure 12 overleaf. Analysis was undertaken for a
specified range of entry and exit points that could impact the proposed development.
