7. CONCLUSION
The proposed holistic Stormwater and Waste Water Management Plan has been designed by a
professional with 18 years of experience in designing/detailing all aspects of car washes; from
Planning to Structural/Civil/Hydraulic Engineering and Architectural drafting/building design
construction documentation, and Car Wash Equipment layout documentation. It is assured that
the highest standards and car wash best practices have been followed in the documentation of
this proposal.
The proposed Stormwater and Waste Water Management Plan gives a complete analogy of how
the proposed Cooroy Car Wash can benefit the local environment and reduce the current
discharge of polluted stormwater including reducing the volume of Physico-Chemical, Heavy
Metals and Organic Pollutants by 48% based on the current car washing practices of the primary
and secondary trade areas that are currently discharged into the local stormwater system.
The proposed inclusive Stormwater design shows great innovation in being able to harvest
~96% of annual rainfall events for total re-use in the Car Wash washing process. Thereby
reducing the demand on the local mains water by over 1.1 ML per year (based on the 50%
rainfall annual total). Due to the large roofed area contributing to rainwater harvesting, this
reduces the contributing site area that yields rainfall run-off in a design storm event. This
ensures that the proposed Car Wash development will reduce the volume and peak flow rates of
stormwater site discharge than the currently being experienced by the pre-developed site!
The proposed Stormwater quality treatment train consists of SQIDEP approved products and
exceeds the minimum stormwater quality improvement targets.
The “car wash” use is a growing routine that is widely accepted by the public as an
environmentally friendly and responsible, convenient, cost-effective method of washing their
vehicle or dog. The proposed building works, stormwater and waste water treatment systems is
a hugely positive impact in the area and will not have any negative effects on the local
infrastructure.
