2.3 NOOSA CIVIC TRADE AREA DEFINITION
The trade area of most relevance for Noosa Civic is illustrated in Map 2.6.
The trade area is defined using a methodology which takes into account a range of factors including:
The existing and future road network and accessibility.
Topographical and physical features of the region which may impede or facilitate travel to the centre
from particular areas.
The size, composition, quality and location of other existing retail facilities, particularly those used
regularly by local residents as an alternative to Noosa Civic.
The results of Consumer Research conducted in the centre in 2012, which included an exit survey of
shoppers.
Analysis by Quantium of the origin of card holders who have made electronic transactions in the
centre over the course of the year.
The trade area has been divided into 5 sectors, including a primary sector and four secondary sectors.
These trade areas are described below and are illustrated in Map 2.6, as follows:
The primary trade area encompasses the suburbs of Noosaville, Tewantin and Doonan to the south.
The secondary north east sector is geographically the smallest of the trade area sectors. It
incorporates the coastal suburbs of Noosa Heads, Sunshine Beach, Sunrise Beach, Castaways
Beach and the northern portion of Peregian Beach. This area is also the primary location for tourists
visiting Noosa and includes the Noosa Junction and Hastings Street shopping precincts.
The secondary south east sector is a narrow strip between the coastline and Sunshine Motorway
extending from Peregian Beach in the north to Mount Coolum in the south. Geographical barriers
such as Lake Weyba and Noosa National Park restrict access to Noosa Civic for these residents.
The secondary south sector extends east to the Sunshine Motorway and west to the Sunshine
Coast hinterland, incorporating parts of the suburbs of Peregian Beach, Coolum Beach, Eumundi and
Ridgewood.
The secondary north west sector incorporates the small townships of Cooroy and Pomona and
rural areas to the northwest of Noosa. It covers the largest geographical region of all the trade area
sectors.
