5.6.1 PLACE OF WORK ANALYSIS
Place of Work data provides an insight into the potential escape expenditure from the Noosa Civic trade
area that relates to employment location. The address of each employed person’s main place of work, in
the week prior to Census night is used to code to Destination Zone (DZ). Data included in Place of Work
information include industry of employment and occupation of employment.
5.6.2 MAIN TRADE AREA EMPLOYMENT CONTAINMENT
At the time of the 2011 Census, approximately 30,500 employed residents of the Noosa Civic main trade
area provided information on their working location. Table 5.10 below shows that over 70% of Noosa
Civic trade area residents also work within the trade area (as defined by the DZ based catchment). This
represents a relatively high level of employment containment in the trade area.
The employment containment ratio is a measure that looks at the proportion of trade area residents who
work locally – that is, the proportion of local jobs to the local resident workforce. Generally, the highest
levels of self-containment are found in regional towns and rural areas where the distances to employment
opportunities mean that commuting to another town or major urban are is not practical.
