RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Personal Assistant to the CEO to the Services & Organisation
Committee Meeting dated 8 August 2017 and request the Chief Executive Officer to write to the
Office of Industrial Relations, Queensland Treasury requesting the appointment of Friday, 7
September 2018 as a Show Holiday for the Noosa Shire.
REPORT
Under the Holidays Act 1983, the Minister is empowered to appoint, upon request by the Chief
Executive Officer of the local government for the district concerned, a special holiday within a
district. Holidays of this nature are usually appointed for an annual agricultural, horticultural or
industrial show.
The Noosa Country Show has traditionally been held annually on the second weekend in
September (2017 is an anomaly with the Show being held on the third weekend due to a
direction by the Queensland Chamber of Agricultural Societies Inc). For 2018, the Noosa
Country Show is proposed for 7 – 8 September.
Requests for the appointment of a special holiday for 2018 are required to be submitted no later
than 11 August 2017. After consultation with the Noosa Show Society, it is proposed that an
application be made to the Minister to appoint Friday, 7 September 2018 as the Show Holiday for
Noosa Shire for 2018. Given that applications are due before Council’s decision on this matter
will be formalised at the Ordinary Meeting on 17 August 2017, it is requested that approval be
given for the application to be submitted following the Services & Organisation Committee
meeting.
