covered in native vegetation.
2. Methodology
This Conservation Report is based on a site visit, a brief flora and fauna survey of two
sites of the property, aerial photographic analysis and literature review.
A brief field survey was conducted on September 13” 1999 after an initial visit to the
property with the landholders and Noosa Council Environment Officer in August. The
sites surveyed were after assessment of the aerial photography provided by Council.
Floristics of each site and fauna (cither by calls, skats, tracks or sightings) were recorded.
The two sites selected were based on demonstrating the different forest types present on
site and also accessibility of other sites was difficult, and time and money constraints
limited the scope of fieldwork. An accurate fauna and flora survey would entail weeks of
work conducted at differing times of the day and night and would require a number of
field scientists. This survey was conducted in the late hours of the morning hence a great
deal of fauna is not captured. Habitat assessment of the forest types present on the site
can provide an indication of potential fauna capability. The age of the vegetation was
estimated to be approximately 40 to 50 years old, and there are present small hollows,
fallen logs and a developed structural forest that provides a viable habitat potential for
many native fauna species.
The aerial photography demonstrated a number of different textures indicating a change
of vegetation community, however from site assessment this change would is more
