Healings? Yoga

Re: Suncoast Healing & Yoga Application for extended hours and classes.
Dear Noosa Council,
Thank you for taking the time to consider this application. After many years of working in the spa and
health industry, including opening and managing the Day Spa at RACV Resort in Noosa, I established my
homebased massage and beauty business (Suncoast Body & Beauty) in Jan 2012 after becoming a mum
and needing more flexible working hours. Since then, my business has slowly grown and evolved to what is
now Suncoast Healing & Yoga.
Business Overview
Suncoast Healing & Yoga is not just another Yoga Studio for people to get fit at. As the business name
indicates, the style of Yoga shared is combined with other healing modalities and practices to bring about
healing to the whole person.
In addition to Yoga classes, I also offer:
• Therapeutic Massage with magnesium and/or warmed healing stones
• Reiki Healing Treatments
• Reiki Training Courses
• Emotional Freedom Technique & Matrix Reimprinting
• Group Meditations and Courses
• Yoga Well-being Workshops
The intention behind these services is to offer the community of Noosa and the Sunshine Coast region
effective tools, caring support and a safe environment to be able to heal themselves and take control of
their own health and wellbeing.
The current medical health system is under enormous pressure with sick people needing help, with a large
majority of disease and poor health due to high stress levels, poor lifestyle habits and mental health issues,
all causing low immunity and poor bodily functioning. It is now well known that stress is the number one
cause of heart attacks, stroke and contributes to cancer.
The western medical system often only has the time to treat the physical symptoms of the person with
pharmaceutical band-aids, that can often come with more side effects and do not treat the root cause of
the problem or look at the person as a whole.
Since experiencing my own health issues 10 years ago and then resolving them through better self-care, I
avoided major surgery and am now very passionate about teaching others how to also overcome their own
health issues.
Page 3
The holistic services provided at Suncoast Healing & Yoga, complement western medicine by giving each
person what the doctors do not have the time to do. That is:
1. Education on how to take care of themselves physically through proper diet and lifestyle choices.
2. Tools on how to manage and reduce their mental and emotional stress.
3. Relief to ongoing physical aches and pains due to work or sport related injuries, or incurable
conditions such as arthritis, scoliosis, joint disfigurement etc.
4. An opportunity to explore and discover the root causes of their poor health symptoms.
5. Knowledge and techniques on how to relax their nervous system, bringing the mind and body into
balance.
6. Safe and effective methods to release and resolve trauma and addictions.
7. A supportive and gentle approach to recover and recuperate from major operations and illness
8. A community of friendship and support for those going through big life events such as loss, grief,
breakups, breakdowns, cancer etc.
9. Understanding and care through end-of-life transitions.
10. A peaceful and natural environment that invokes relaxation and allows visitors to close off from the
busy world.
Clientele
Many of the clients and students that attend classes and appointments, have been coming to me long term
since I began integrating Yoga, Meditation and healing skills into my already established home-based
Massage business Syears ago in Tewantin. With my lease coming to an end in Tewantin and knowing I was
outgrowing the garage space I was using for my work, relocating to Tinbeerwah in May 2023 was a leap of
faith for me to expand my offerings, with the success dependant on increasing classes in order cover the
extra overheads of a larger venue.
The natural peaceful environment at Tinbeerwah has certainly complimented my offerings and the word
has spread fairly quickly, with new clients now becoming regulars too, both have come to depend on their
Yoga practice and/or healing sessions to manage their pain, stress levels and maintain themselves
physically, mentally and emotionally. Some are also living with cancer or other major health issues and find
what I offer a compliment to their medical treatments.
A large number of clients that need to visit are those that are managing high stress levels caused by
pressures of working full time, some also raising families and managing household responsibilities. This is
the demographic of clients that I am finding the hardest to support, as they are not able to come during
normal business hours and it saddens me that they are missing out, when these are often the people that
need it the most!

Carparking The property already has a road-based carpark from previous use of the premises, so no changes were made to the natural vegetation for parking. Only the removal of dead branches seen as a risk. In order to keep in theme with the natural bush setting, bamboo and logs have been used to mark the parking spaces. We have enough parking spaces for over 10 cars and have included 1 x disabled, plus staff parking. Staff There is only one staff member needed on the property at one time delivering the services. As owner/operator it is mainly myself within the building 90% of the time carrying out healing/ yoga sessions. David lives on the property and therefore carries out maintenance and comes to the building for meetings outside of class and healing times. On occasions I may have one other colleague that comes to volunteer their time and assist with classes/workshops. Current Operating Hours My average week during term time is: Monday: 9.00am - 2.30pm -3 x clients Tuesday: 1.00-6.00pm - 2-3 x clients Wednesday: 9.00am - 2.30pm 1 x class, 2 x clients Thursday: 9.00am - 6.00pm 2 x classes, 2-3 x clients Friday: 9.00am -2.30pm 1 x class, 2 x clients Sat/Sun closed The time I give each client is from 60min to 2hours, with the 90min session being the most popular as it gives enough time for some talk therapy as well as treatment time on the table. The above is subject to change depending on the needs of my clients and my family dutie. Current Yoga Schedule All classes are 75mins and taught by me, with the occasional stand in teacher. Wed 9am_______ Slow Flow for Beginners - Experienced Up to 10 students Thurs 9am______ Chair Flow for Seniors______________ 6 students______ Thursday 4.45pm Radiant Flow for All Levels__________ 3-5 students Friday 9am_____ Friday Flow for All levels Up to 10 students Note: No. of students are on average and may also vary week to week Current Issue I have taught evening Yoga classes and offered late appointments for many years, with never a thought that there may have been council codes around this, nor ever had any complaints. On relocating to Tinbeerwah I was offering 2 x evening classes at 6pm, plus added a Saturday morning class and some afternoon yoga workshops to cater for the fulltime workers of the Noosa region. I would offer treatments late on an as needed basis also. The Noosa Homebased Business Council Codes were brought to our attention last September due to a neighbour's complaint about the scale of the business. We immediately reduced the classes and honoured the codes. However, because of this we have lost number of students/clients who are extremely disappointed at not being able to access classes outside of normal business hours. New clients also have strongly expressed their need to access after work/weekend sessions. As you see above, the morning classes are full, yet the Thursday class is now low in numbers because the time is not late enough for people to finish work and get to class on time. This reduction has also impacted
Page 5
my already modest income, causing some financial strain as I had forecasted the extra classes helping to
cover the extra overheads of the larger space.
I have been very grateful that David Hughes owner of 121 Tinbeerwah Rd, has come on board as business
partner to assist with the maintenance and financial success of SCHY, to ensure that we can continue to
serve the community through these difficulties.
Proposed Solution:
Although there are many yoga studios and therapists around, the demographic of clientele that we attract
are those that would prefer NOT to attend a busy yoga studio in town, full of athletic flexible types. They
prefer a type of service and environment that we provide here in Tinbeerwah that is gentle, nurturing and
peaceful.
Many are beginners or are new on the health care path and need a nurturing teacher/therapist that is
compassionate and adapts to suit the individual, which seems difficult to find. Some that are on a journey
to heal themselves due to chronic stress, traumas, health issues etc, yet still need to work full time. These
are the types that would greatly benefit from classes/workshops and therapies that are available after
5.30pm and on weekends.
The people that are working very hard to serve the community, such as Health Care professionals,
hospitality workers, lawyers, teachers etc, also need to be able to have the opportunity to serve
themselves so they do not fall pray to sickness and can manage their stress levels, ultimately taking the
load off the medical system and being able to give more to the community.
David and I would like to request an increase in the number of classes from 4 per week, to (up to) 8 per
week, with operational hours from 9am - 7.30pm Mon- Friday and 9- 6pm Saturdays. This will give us
enough room to be able to offer extra services and support to ALL that need it, without excluding the full-
time workers. The extra classes will also mean we do not need to go beyond the maximum of 10 students,
but rather spread the students over more class times.
The extra classes may be offered by myself or my highly qualified and experienced colleagues. This would
also enable us to offer some other styles of Yoga that I do not teach and allow me to keep a healthy
work/life balance also.
Example Future Yoga Timetable
Mon 6.00pm Restorative Flow for Beginners - Experienced
Tuesday 6.00pm Group Meditation - All Welcome (monthly)
Wed 9.00am Slow Flow for Beginners - Experienced_____
Wed 6.00pm Yin Yoga for All Levels (monthly)__________
Thurs 9.00am Chair Flow for Seniors__________________
Thursday 6.00pm Radiant Flow for All Levels_______________
Friday 9.00am Friday Flow for All levels________________
Saturday 9.00am Radiant Flow for All Levels
2.00-6.00pm Workshops/Group meditations
(seasonal/as needs basis)
The aim would be to increase the classes gradually over the next 6-12 months adapting to the needs and
feedback of the community.
In order to maintain my own health and wellbeing, I of course would not be fully booked for the entirety of
the available hours of 9am-7.30pm. I cannot serve everyone myself and long hours are not good for me.
Page 6
Therefore, I would continue with my current average of 5-6hours and 2-4 people per day with my start and finish times varying depending on the needs of my clients, with a maximum of 1-2 later shifts per week. I would adapt my current class times where needed and also offer appointments and seasonal meditation/yoga workshops or course on a Saturday afternoon. The maximum number of students attending classes would not need to change beyond 10 if we had these extra classes to offer. Due to the quiet nature of our offerings, and all parking on site, I believe the impact to the neighbours of increased classes and hours would be minimal. Compared to the number of cars that visit Mount Tinbeerwah on a daily basis I do not see the extra traffic causing any issues. I have Public Liability insurance, first aid, and all the relevant professional qualifications, plus over 25 years of experience in the health industry. Certificates can be provided on request. We have received letters from members of our community that support our application which you may be interested to read. I thank you for your time and consideration, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Warm Regards, \ Jennifer Crowcombe Yoga & Meditation Teacher, Reiki Master/Teacher Massage Therapist EFT & Matrix Reimprinting Practitioner

Healing & Yoga 12th February 2024 Noosa Council Development Application Overview. The former workshop and storage area building at 121 Tinbeerwah Rd Tinbeerwah, now known as the Padma Jala Yoga Temple had been empty for around 12 years until mid April 2023 when Jennifer Crowcombe moved her established Suncoast Healing and Yoga activities there. In the weeks preparing the premises for clients, Jennifer spent a considerable amount of time, effort and all the savings she had, plus she received much needed donations from the community to furnish the building. As 2023 progressed it became apparent to me that Jennifer was struggling both financially and keeping up with maintenance and as I believed what she was trying to do was worthwhile, I suggested I take an interest in Suncoast Healing and Yoga to free her up to enable her to concentrate on her physically and mentally demanding healing and pain-relieving activities. Even with my participation it was obvious that the restrictive operating times and number of classes imposed on her by the Noosa Council was having a damaging effect on her activity, many of her former clients could not fit in with her restrictive hours of operating. Jennifer is a competent, community minded and caring person whose healing abilities should not be curtailed by the council restrictions she is forced to operate under at present. The building at 121 Tinbeerwah Rd is the perfect building and environment for the activity being conducted there. Suncoast Healing and Yoga is by its very nature a quiet non-invasive activity which blends in with and in no way disturbs or impedes on the natural surroundings. There are only two residences in the area, one is approx... 160mtrs, and the second approx. 275mtrs from the Yoga building. Both Jennifer and I are aware of public safety. The main carpark behind the building and the walkway to it from the Yoga area is lit by overhead lighting. A disabled car parking space is 10 metres from the rear entrance to the building which does not have ramps or steps. No alcohol, drugs, or tobacco products are allowed on the premises.
Page 8
Within the building is a first aid kit, afire blanket and fire extinguisher, outside the main entry to the Yoga room is a second fire extinguisher. There is a large sprinkler on the roof of the building and afire hose both serviced by a 60psi x 2000ltrs an hour pump which draws its water from a dam on the property. Occasionally the premise is loaned at no cost to both groups and individuals holding fund raising events for charitable causes. The building both inside and out is in top condition as /, formerly a registered builder maintain it myself. I have owned and lived at 121 Tinbeerwah Rd for around 35 years. Regards David Hughes.
