Strengths and heritage sectors to ensure
Opportunities their ongoing development
In addition to the cultural venues, facilities and stakeholders contributing to the arts, culture and heritage
sectors, Noosa has a wide range of positive cultural features which help provide a strong foundation for future
growth and development.
• Many residents already participate in creative and cultural activities, either as a practising artist, part of an
arts organisation or as an audience member
• Artists are frequently attracted to the Noosa region both as residents and visitors
• There is a strong alignment between expressed community values and the cultural sector
• There is a strong connection between arts, heritage and the environment and the concept of the Noosa
Biosphere
• There is a high proportion of the Noosa community aged over 60 who have time, resources and desire to
participate in creative activities
• The Noosa community has a focus on lifestyle which includes creative pursuits
• Our earliest human roots are embedded in the Kabi Kabi/Gubbi Gubbi culture which continues in place
today
• The design sector is strong, particularly in the areas of architecture, graphic design and interior design
• The digital creative sector is growing and keen to capitalise on emerging technologies and associated
creative industry opportunities
• The community has demonstrated it is highly capable of conceiving of and delivering high quality cultural
events and activities eg Noosa Alive, Noosa Open Studios, Noosa International Film Festival
• Currently, Noosa enjoys a thriving arts and heritage volunteer sector
• Compared to other local governments of our size, the arts, culture and heritage sector receive strong Council
support including direct funding. Funding programs such as the Heritage Levy, RADF and Council grants are
a highly valued investment into the cultural sector.
• The cultural sector is confident in having their say and advocating for a strong future for its sector
• There is significant community pride regarding Noosa’s history, particularly its commitment to determining
its own future and protecting the environment
The Heritage Levy has practically preserved and made accessible local heritage infrastructure, documents,
knowledge and stories. Council’s participation in the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) ensures important
funding of individual artists and cultural projects.
