Indigenous Cultural Heritage
Council will work with the Kabi Kabi/Gubbi Gubbi
community to increase the awareness and understanding
of our local indigenous cultural heritage, both in terms
of respect for past history and present cultural practices
and people. Council will support the local indigenous
community in respectfully and sensitively sharing their
knowledge and stories to residents and visitors. Priority
actions will include undertaking an audit and survey
to review and improve knowledge and mapping of
indigenous cultural heritage, exploring the feasibility of
an indigenous cultural heritage trail and supporting local
indigenous events and activities.
Heritage Coordination
Consultation with internal and external stakeholders
has highlighted the lack of coordination and
responsibility for Heritage within Council. It is currently
fragmented or relying on Councils’ part-time Heritage
Librarian. The Heritage Librarian role will be converted
to a full-time Heritage Coordinator to improve
coordination heritage matters within Council, provide
or seek expert heritage advice, act as a single point
of contact for heritage issues and oversight Council’s
heritage activities.
The Noosa Story
The story of Noosa’s development and
attachment to core community and
environmental values is a unique one. Council
will work with stakeholders to capture and
document this contemporary heritage including
the stories and histories of local people from the
period from 1960 to de-amalgamation.
The material will be used by stakeholders to
develop engaging exhibitions, displays and
content to tell the unique Noosa story.
