Details of Submission As local Noosa Heads residents of nearly 20yrs, we would like to confirm our support for the proposed hotel development. Knowing the Calile Hotel's reputation for the delivery of quality outcomes, we firmly believe their hotel proposal will provide the much needed luxury hotel offering that Noosa has been missing. Their strong brand presence and high quality of service will entice an affluent visitor group, which is likely to reinvigorate the Noosa locality and surrounding region. The proposal is very well suited to align with the Visitor Accom land zoning and meet Council's preference for a 5-star offering. Their proposal appears considerate to neighbouring communities and the surrounding environment. Grant Street is in desperate need of improvement to facilitate safe and unhindered access to and from the Settler's Cove precinct. With the hotel proposal aside, Grant St has been struggling for years and there's a serious accident just waiting to happen unless major improvement works are implemented. With compromised road verges to the upper and lower sides, there is limited opportunity to provide the much needed safe pedestrian and off-street parking zones. Council must avoid 'band-aid' fixes and seek appropriate funding to correct the problems properly. Realigning the road by reclaiming the wasted area of the angular median/retaining wall, would appear the only viable means to generate the needed space. (refer attached concept design for consideration). We are opposed to the reopening of the Banksia Av cul-de-sacs, as this will only promote ‘rat-running’, by the residents of Settler's Cove, which is exactly the outcome Council sought to avoid in adopting the existing road design. Visitors to the hotel will rely on Grant St as the primary and most direct approach, in lieu of secondary alternative access options only known by locals. The road & pedestrian access issues must be addressed at the source of the problem, which is Grant Street.
