Paid parking is designed to be a disincentive to driving, therefore revenue generated from paid
parking could be used to fund alternative transport options such as Park-and-Ride services,
Noosa style shuttle bus, walking and cycling paths etc.
Paid Parking in Byron Bay
As a result of parking spaces in Byron Bay town centre being at or near capacity every
day, in late 2015 Byron Bay Council introduced a pay parking scheme based on vehicle
number plates. A flat $3 per hour parking rate applies 9am to 6pm seven days per
week with all day car parks at designated areas on the outer edge of the town centre.
Byron Shire residents can purchase an annual parking fee exemption entitlement at $50
per vehicle (with no cost for residents with a Centrelink card (blue).
Non-Byron resident workers employed within the designated paid parking area can
purchase an annual parking fee exemption entitlement at $100 per vehicle.
