Traffic Congestion Charge
In collaboration with key stakeholders, Noosa Council will investigate whether a congestion charge
might work around the Hastings Street precinct with consideration for residents and non-residents.
During peak holiday periods when traffic in the Hastings Street precinct becomes unmanageable
with cars banked up along Noosa Parade and up Noosa Hill, a congestion charge may be a solution.
This would encourage people to use other modes of sustainable transport such as public transport,
cycling and walking. The congestion charge could use ‘new generation’ payment systems such as
number plate recognition, smart phone apps, etc. A range of exemptions and discounts could be
available to certain vehicles and individuals such as residents. The net- revenue from the congestion
charge could be spent on sustainable transport initiatives in Noosa Shire.
