Noosa Car Parking Study 2017 - 2032
Final Report
3 Current Parking Performance
3.1 Sources of Parking Utilisation Data
An audit of the on-street carparking supply was undertaken in July 2017 as part of the Noosa Carparking Study
2017 – 2032. In addition to general parking, the audit identified supply of loading zones, disabled parking zones
and motorcycles parking spaces. It covered the following locations:
Cooran;
Cooroy;
Hastings Street;
Noosa Junction;
Noosaville;
Peregian Beach;
Pomona;
Sunshine Beach; and
Tewantin.
Alongside this parking supply audit, parking demand for existing parking supply within the above centres was
examined using recent aerial imagery observations of parking demand, based on the number of cars occupying
spaces. These aerial imagery observations were taken on Tuesday 25th July at approximately 11am and the
summary results from these surveys are provided in in Table 3-1.
Table 3-1: Parking Utilisation Estimates for Aerial Imagery
Centre Carparking Supply (Carparking Audit, July 2017) Observed Utilisation (Aerial Imagery, July 2017)
Cooran 27 6 22%
Cooroy 336 193 59%
Hastings St 396 302 78%
Noosa Junction 755 551 74%
Noosaville 110 95 86%
Peregian Beach 208 170 83%
Pomona 127 87 70%
Sunshine Beach 52 46 88%
Tewantin 347 283 84%
Total 2,358 1,733 74%
In addition to this parking supply audit, additional parking utilisation observations for each of the above study
areas were collected between the 18th and the 25th of January, providing an additional nine data points for each
of the study areas (i.e. three different days at three different times each day, 8-9am, 12-1pm, 4-5pm). The parking
utilisation estimates combined disabled and standard parking bays utilisation and parking supply and excluded
loading bays and motorcycle bays.
