REPORT
1. Purpose
On Wednesday 10 December 2014, Council finalised the purchase of the Peregian Bowls Club
taking possession of the land and buildings. The purpose of this report is to seek Council
approval for the establishment of a Rufous Street Precinct Project Control Group (PCG) and the
allocation of funds to allow for:
the safe removal of the buildings and asbestos contamination from the Bowls Club site; and
concept design and consultation.
2. Establishment of the Rufous Street Precinct PCG
The Old Peregian Bowls Club site is located between David Low Way and Rufous Street to the
north west of Peregian Village. The development of the Bowls Club site and Rufous Street
presents a unique strategic opportunity to connect the commercial hub of Peregian Village with
surrounding sports fields and community activities as well as help solve some of the entrenched
parking problems within the area.
At the same time it also presents an opportunity to enhance the economic development of the
area through the establishment of a digital hub/incubator thereby adding to Peregian’s growing
reputation as Australia’s Silicon by the Sea.
