Risks & Opportunities
If Council does not enter into the agreement with Healthy Land & Water, Noosa Council will no
longer be included in South East Queensland’s Ecosystem Health Monitoring Program, which has
been running for 21 years to date. This is currently the primary way water quality is monitored and
reported on in the Noosa River Catchment, although considerable progress has been made in
developing Council’s integrated water quality monitoring program and collating data collected by
citizen scientists through Noosa’s Natural Resource Management groups, to allow localised
reporting.
There is also significant opportunity to leverage funding through this network ahead of the
Olympics. Healthy Land and Water can have an important role in advocating on behalf of local
governments alongside the Council of Mayors, providing the scientific and technical expertise to
help guide the allocation and prioritisation of on-ground action and restoration.

Council staff have had detailed discussions with Healthy Land and Water over recent months about
the Member Agreement and Healthy Land and Water’s value proposition to ensure deliverables
match Council’s key management priorities and needs. This includes the role of the organisation
in supporting and applying for funding opportunities on Council’s behalf and providing ongoing
technical support for priority streams in Noosa’s catchments.
