Priorities for Noosa’s settlement
Outcome: Areas for new urban development are clearly defined.
Maintain the existing town and village boundaries unless minor changes are supported by local bio-physical circumstances.
T
Contain most new development within existing urban areas focussing on “infill” development rather than “greenfield” development (developing vacant or
under-used land within existing urban areas rather than the development of new housing estates).
F
Maintain undeveloped spaces between urban areas, towns and villages.
Continue with an upper limit on development capacity.
A
Outcome: Towns and villages are community hubs of activity.
R
Increase the role of town and village centres to include, where appropriate, housing, community, retail, commercial, entertainment and hospitality opportunities.
D
Support opportunities to add to the vibrancy of hinterland places.
Outcome: Existing infrastructure, including road networks, support population needs.
Review the capacity of existing infrastructure and service networks as part of setting new policy directions.
Utilise capacity within the existing infrastructure networks before building additional capacity.
Put strategies in place to deal with peak tourist periods such as park and ride.
Outcome: Vacant and under-utilised land is appropriately developed.
Identify vacant or underutilised land within the existing urban areas for redevelopment opportunities, particularly for attached housing of 1-2 bedroom dwellings.
Outcome: New development is in keeping with the Noosa style and employs innovative design
and sustainable building techniques.
Continue to have a high standard of sustainable building design that reflects Noosa’s design principles.
Encourage a distinctively Noosa design style for the built environment and infrastructure.
Develop best practice sustainability measures to assess new development.
Encourage innovative responses to building design and sustainability.
