Priorities for Noosa’s Housing Choices

Outcome: A diverse range and choice in housing types, size and location are available to meet resident housing needs.

Outcome: New housing is located with good access to public transport, employment and services.

                                          T
Provide opportunities for a diverse range of housing types, particularly smaller dwellings, in locations close to transport, services and employment.

                                        F
Allow smaller 1-2 bedroom dwellings in a mixed use format in town centres.

Identify opportunities for artisan residences and live-on premises opportunities for small business.

                                       A
Allow secondary small dwellings up to 65sqm on the same site as an existing house. Include specific criteria relating to minimum lot size, site cover and distance

                                      R
   from existing dwelling.

Identify opportunities for greater housing choice in hinterland towns and villages, subject to the provision of adequate infrastructure.

                                     D
Review the development provisions for the Semi-attached and Attached housing zones to encourage smaller 1 and 2 bedroom dwellings.

Maintain suitable locations for aged care facilities for older people.

Outcome: New housing is focussed within the existing urban area.
Focus new housing development on “infill” rather than “greenfield” locations (developing vacant or under-used land within existing urban areas rather than the

   development of new housing estates).

Identify vacant or underutilised sites within the existing urban area for attached housing.

Outcome: Land for attached housing is available and dedicated for permanent housing.
Investigate whether there is a need to identify certain areas as being suitable as attached housing for use for permanent living only.

Outcome: Infrastructure supports new housing development.
Ensure adequate provision of infrastructure supports increases in housing density, particularly, water, sewerage and transport.
