Planning a way forward for Hinterland Villages
Outcome: The small rural village of Kin Kin retains its connection to its remote landscape setting and its heritage.
Retain the predominant Queensland vernacular detached housing form in the village through specific height and setback building controls.
Investigate opportunities to consolidate commercial and retail development to enable Kin Kin to capture hinterland tourist trade.
T
Protect the Country Life Hotel as an important local landmark and ensure development on or adjacent to the site is sympathetic to the existing character of the
building.
F
Allow for new industries and enterprises in the land currently zoned for that purpose.
A
Maintain a low density pattern of residential development to protect the village character and provide for the effective treatment and disposal of effluent on site.
Avoid house sites on unsuitable land that would pose a risk for residents or property.
R
Outcome: Boreen Point retains its unique character and identity as a small lakeside village.
D
Retain the lakeside holiday house character of the village by maintaining specific building controls for setbacks, height and gross floor area.
Investigate opportunities for business expansion and visitor accommodation on under-utilised land.
Ensure any development at or adjoining the Apollonian Hotel is sympathetic to the local landmark and character of the site.
Maintain minimum lot sizes so that large house sites contribute to the lakeside village character and allow on site effluent treatment and disposal of effluent.
Protect walkability of the village while avoiding invasive infrastructure and capital works that detract from its informal character.
