Planning a way forward for Tewantin
Outcome: Tewantin maintains its character as a vibrant riverside town.
Maintain traditional main street of Poinciana Avenue as the heart of a district level activity centre providing a good range of commercial, retail, community and
residential activities in a mixed use setting.
T
Retain a compact business centre bound by properties facing Sidoni Street, Blakesley Street, Diyan Street, Memorial Avenue and Doonella Street.
F
Prevent retail and commercial growth outside the town centre.
Promote human scale of built form acknowledging current buildings up to 2 or 3 storeys in town centre and small tenancies rather than big floor plates.
A
In Poinciana Ave, build to the front boundary with active frontages and continuous awnings creating interest and comfort for pedestrians
Create opportunities for outdoor dining and breakout space for workers.
R
Provide car parking in the street and to the rear of buildings so as not to interfere with the pedestrian streetscape.
D
Enhance physical and visual connection to the river near Diyan Street and the Noosa Marina.
Outcome: Tewantin is home to a diverse, inclusive, community.
Increase housing choice, particularly for small households and older residents
Investigate additional attached housing opportunities close to the town centre with mixed use development in the centre itself
Support further development of aged care, health and wellness industries, professional services and creative industries.
Ensure built form and public realm offer high standards of pedestrian accessibility and comfort with wide shaded footpaths and multiple areas to rest or converse.
Improve pedestrian accessibility around town with a connected network of shared pathways linking residential neighbourhoods to the business centre and local
shops, schools and recreational facilities.
Where topography allows, ensure land development incorporates through-streets providing a legible road network
Outcome: Residents and visitors appreciate a connection with the landscape.
Protect the well-established network of open space including parkland, sports fields and nature reserves
Redevelopment of sites near the Noosa River should respect view lines from public spaces.
Limit visitor accommodation to caravan parks and the Noosa Lakes Resort
Maintain current level of built form at Noosa Marina and support river-related businesses with limited dining and retail premises
