At Council's Ordinary Meeting on 15 January 2015, Council resolved to undertake public
consultation on the Noosa LGA Draft Pest Management Plan 2015-2019. Under the Land
Protection (Stock Route and Rural Land) Act 2002 a proposed Pest Management Plan must
undergo a 28 day public consultation process. The Draft Pest Management Plan was posted
on Council's 'Your Say Noosa' website with submissions closing on 7 April 2015. Council
received five submissions.
1. Pest Management Plan Public Submissions
Attachment 1 provides a summary table of the submissions. Comments provided by the
submitters have been considered and recommendations made in the summary table. Public
submissions can be viewed on Council’s Your Say Noosa webpage and a copy (57 pages)
has been placed in the Councillors’ room.
In summary, the submissions mainly concern the use of 1080 poison for wild dog control and
specific comments from Bushland Care and Environment Groups on weed control in natural
areas. These matters are discussed below.
2. The Use of 1080 Poison for Wild Dog Control
Submissions relating to the use of 1080 poison for wild dog control were mainly concerned
with animal suffering, impacts on non-target species and potential human health issues. The
submitters provided examples of alternatives to 1080 poison. One submitter has provided a
petition against using 1080 in Noosa Shire with 269 signatories.
