2. FLOOD HEIGHT ALERT GAUGES (BUREAU OF METEOROLOGY)
There are several bureau of meteorology (BoM) flood height alert gauges situated within the Noosa
LGA and an image showing the approximate location of these is provided in attachment A.
Flood height data recorded at these gauges has been plotted against the BoM'’s flood height
categories (i.e. minor, moderate and major) and these plots are provided in attachment C of this
report. The plots show that levels within the Noosa River at Tewantin and at Boreen Point did not
reach beyond a ‘minor’ flood categorisation.
The flood height at the Cooran Alert gauge reached slightly above the moderate category flood
level.
The flood height at the Lake Macdonald Drive Alert gauge reached approximately halfway between
the moderate and the major category flood level.
It is noted that a flood height alert gauge is operation at Kin Kin however the Bureau of Meteorology
website currently does not define the flood hazard category levels for this gauge.
3. MEAN HEIGHT GAUGE DATA
Mean height gauge (MHG) data has been collected from numerous gauges situated throughout the
Noosa hinterland. This data has been converted to AHD levels based upon instructions from the
council officers at Sunshine Coast Council who previously held responsibility for this data (prior to
de-amalgamation).
The MHG data has been incorporated into Noosa Council's GIS layer (MapInfo table) which
contains data for all recordings associated with previous historic flood events. Therefore the data is
now readily available for future flood studies and for council flood searches.
A copy of the MHG data is provided in Attachment D and a copy of Noosa Council's updated GIS
layer for historic flood levels is provided in Attachment E.
4. LIMITATIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS
In preparing this report, HWMC has relied upon and assumed accurate data provided by Sunshine
Coast and Noosa Council. Unless otherwise stated in this report, HWMC has not attempted to
verify the accuracy or completeness of any such information. The accuracy of this report is reliant
upon the accuracy of this information.
