noosa marketplace architectural statement We provide this architect's statement with regard to the design of the proposed Noosa Marketplace Development located in Hofmann Drive adjacent to the Noosa Civic Shopping Centre, Noosaville. The following statement outlines how the proposed development addresses discussed design criteria to deliver the highest standard in community based urban design. The Marketplace is a project designed to bring the active and creative community of Noosa together. It has been conceived to connect and respect surrounding uses and users working to complement the current fabric of the Noosa Civic Precinct. It is made up of a complementary range of uses and tenants, all of which provide amenity to a community that is actively encouraged to gather in one collaborative space. Made up of a variety of pavilion buildings, each curated precinct within the development encourages unique activities and experiences and will serve as a destination for the local community. The Marketplace building is the hub for the development in that it houses established, start-up and incubator tenants in a co-operative space. Imagined to be active from early morning though to late evening it is seen to be the epicentre of the development. The Marketplace is flanked by curated cottage industry and local farm to table based enterprises who combine to form the “creative makers” for Noosa and the Sunshine Coast. To the South of the Marketplace — the development is anchored by 2 larger spaces (something we call the Shed) that are designed to house interactive/ commercial production uses such as a children’s indoor activity centre and a local boutique brewery, culinary cooking school or similar. Apart from providing a production hub for the Makers precinct — the Shed serves to provide engaging and interactive edutainment for the development Opposite the Marketplace is a small F+B pavilion that will serve to service the site with a fresh local dining experience. Small in nature -it draws its vernacular from the coastal hinterland architecture of the region. This light edge for this pavilion is then utilised in the masking the larger “making” sheds that sit opposite. This “Hinterland” kit of parts then forms the basis of the visual language for the overall development and the use of soft hand crafted materials remains faithful to the intended uses.. The North is arranged as a series of larger scale structures anchored by creative and active based showrooms. The adjacency of lifestyle and homemaker program works to create precincts that encourages making activities and adventure play within the development. A freestanding multilevel commercial pavilion is the gateway to the site entry from Hoffman Drive and is an important marker for the development. Taller in nature but sensitively clad with sustainable facades, it has the potential to house health facilities, wellness uses and co-working spaces bringing a diverse set of amenities, users and visitors to the site. Shielded vehicle parking sits adjacent to all of the precincts on the site and apart from serving the function of parking for customers it presents an opportunity to double as a space for curated open markets and events to be undertaken on weekends or special sessional occasions for the local community. Although separated from Noosa Civic by Hoffmann Drive, it is envisaged that we will be able to work with council to improve existing connections to the surrounding fabric/ urban grain and encourage community movement via foot as opposed to vehicle. The Noosa Marketplace has been designed with the local community in mind. Creative in nature — the Noosa Marketplace looks to be a hub that provides great gathering spaces that is then flanked by a great mixture of amenity and community experiences.
