Oppose letter
Attached to the e-mail PM Submission - Brent & Kirsty Pocock - MCU21/0154.
Noosa council. 7th of October 2021 Our names are Brent and Kirsty Pocock of 90 Patterson drive Tinbeerwah We are writing in relation to the Online application MCU21/0154 Property ID: 153292 For a small base meat processing facility We object to this submission being approved and would like to voice our opposition as to why this facility should not proceed. We are currently the neighbouring property to 82 Patterson drive. Sharing two boundary lines with them, on our north with their driveway and on our west, which is a large side boundary. We feel and know already that this facility will highly impact us. To begin with we believe the value of our property will decrease dramatically having a meat processing plant set up adjacent to it in a residential area. The type of business the applicant is bringing to our area is not a business that should be set up within a residential area it should be located in an industrial or commercial estate. We would like to know where else in a residential area that a meat processing plant has been set up in a residential area. We have young children and there are a number of other young families in our area that all play together. We don’t want them to see dead carcasses hanging from the vehicle entering in and out of street/ driveway. This is something no child or no adult should have to encounter in a residential area. The applicant’s truck is not enclosed and the sights are not something we want to see. Our children have already been subjected to the sight of excessive blood being watered away from a kill in the backyard of this residence and were disturbed by the scene, With the entry of carcasses this will also impact our wildlife. From our observation/witnessing of removal as well as aerial pictures supplied, the applicant has already participated in the interference of nature and wildlife locally by removing trees/vegetation that was zoned Koala habitat, without permit. Bringing in dead deer will increase feral dogs, foxes, pigs, rats, mice, cockroaches etc, which is already a big issue in

our area. Deer carry a lot of disease; the increased diseases will begin to affect not only us but also the entire neighbourhood. The increased vermin will begin to attack our domestic animals, our beautiful birds, and our protected animals-koala, kangaroo etc. as well as impact our own domestic homes. We have a nature corridor-running behind both properties, run off water is fed in to Lake McDonald, which supplies Noosa’s water. Is the applicant releasing potential harmful chemicals and wastes into Noosa water system? If so Noosa’s water supply will be contaminated. The applicant’s driveway runs directly behind our backyard, the increased traffic will increase noise pollution making it extremely difficult to enjoy our private backyard where our pool and outdoor eating area is situated. In addition, the applicant has two compressors that are running day and night, (facility compressor and trailer compressor), which are already impacting our quality and quantity of sleep as our bedroom is located right near their driveway and closest to the facility setup, making it extremely difficult to get a full nights sleep or any sleep. With the driveway also located near our bedroom, the sound and head lights of cars coming in during the night will make nights sleep even worse. Also as the business grows the impact of this will increase. We have already been impacted by the increase of vehicle in and out of the property whilst they have been setting up this facility. Over a period of time, there will be an odour in our area, the golden triangle as this area has been known, will no longer be. With this type of business in this area, it sets a precedence that Noosa council will not be able to back down from. What other semi industrial businesses will this allow, what other inappropriate business will the Noosa council approve of in a residential area. This business is not a business suited to a residential area and would not be considered in Noosa Heads, Tewantin, Noosaville, Sunshine beach etc residential areas and it should not be permitted in the Tinbeerwah residential area. This business should be in a commercial and/or industrial estate, or farming area where it would not impact on local residents. It is not likely that this business would stay at the size that the proposal states and as the proposer has already built the facility and commenced

the processing of animals without permit how are we to expect that we will not be impacted further down the line when their business grows, there product lines increase and then we will be further impacted by more traffic, noise, odours, feral animals, vermin, unpleasant and unpalatable sights. Our neighbour has not at any stage advised us of what they were planning to do, our children mix and we see each other on a daily basis. This has and will continue to impact on our relationship with these neighbours as they have failed miserably to communicate with us, or consider how there facility would impact our family, our home, and our neighbourhood. We ask that you seriously consider our concerns and that of our other neighbours who are very concerned with this enterprise and the impact it will have on our community and also our property values.
