The Assessment Manager, Noosa Council, P.O. Box 141, Tewantin, Q. 4565. 10th September, 2018. Dear Sir/Madam, Re: Proposed Development Application ref MCU18/0102 – 14 & 16 Mary Street, Noosaville We wish to register our objection to the above application for a 122 bed accommodation facility, in it’s present form. We live in George Street, very close to what we understand is a proposed backpackers’ hostel with accommodation for a large number of people and providing them with outdoor entertainment facilities, including a licensed bar. This type of facility will obviously disturb the current way of living for us, and others, in the immediate vicinity in terms of noise and number of people in the area. Many of the 122 people staying in the hostel will arrive in a self-drive vehicle. To accommodate parking for what could be as many as 50 vehicles at any one time, the application is offering parking for only 8, which surely cannot be acceptable. Currently George Street regularly has vehicles parked on both sides of the road (many of whom access the Skin Clinic at 10 Mary Street), which creates traffic congestion, but by about 5pm and on weekends, the street is relatively clear providing an enjoyment for residents living there. It is accepted that occasionally the street is full of vehicles and boat trailers, for boaties accessing the river, but again by late afternoon, these vehicles are gone. This proposed development will undoubtedly put parked vehicles in our street on a permanent basis. Many of these vehicles will arrive and depart from early morning to late evening, and will come and go constantly during the day. There will inevitably be issues for the residents in our street accessing their own properties. A hostel for 122, mainly young visitors, so close to housing and open at all hours for 365 days of the year, will impact significantly on us. Noise carries particularly at night when we would expect voices and traffic to quieten down. We feel that the bed numbers are too great for this area, and the parking proposal too small. Please keep us informed of the progress of this application. Yours faithfully, David and Barbara TYACKE, 2/6 George Street, Noosaville. TEL: H: 5449 8432 M: 0412 215 564 E: [email protected]
