Dear Councillors Having been a resident of Serenity Close for 8 years and and now Katharina St for 5 years, I wish to point out the following traffic issues: 1. I notice that many traffic objections appear to apply to Grant St and Serenity Close only. Katharina St is a major access route for both cars and pedestrians to Hastings St and The Sound as it is shorter than using Grant St and helps avoid the Junction roundabout. 2. The problem is it is now reduced to a one lane street for traffic given the increased parking on both sides of the street over the past few years. This creates congestion when driving in either direction as cars have to find an empty space to pull into to allow others to pass. 3. Pedestrians are forced to use the road given there are no proper paths in Katharina St, and none planned as far as I have been informed by Council. It is a very busy street for pedestrians, many with strollers or dogs, who have to duck and weave around parked cars to avoid oncoming vehicles. It is an accident waiting to happen. 4. The increase of heavy vehicles due to building works in Katharina St, Grant St and Serenity Close makes the matter that much more urgent. 5. The closure of Banksia Ave has made matters worse for both Grant and Katharina Sts. Reopening it would help traffic to/from Noosaville avoid the Grant St/Junction roundabout. Sincerely, Helen Maddern M. 0419 296 088
