7.4 Forest Fire Danger Index
This report will use the specified Forest Fire Danger Index of FFDI 52 as required by Bushfire
Resilient Communities.
7.5 Parameters used in the bushfire behaviour modelling
West bushfire attack
This modelled fire burns up-slope through Melaleuca quinquinervis woodland to attack from the west.
• Fuel loads used are the “Woodland” fuel loads of Australian Standard AS3959 of 15t/ha
surface fuel & 25t/ha total fuel.
• Separation of the house from the hazard: various
• Slope in the vegetation = 1.70
• Site slope = 1.70
• Fire run is 200m leading to a modelled rate of spread of 0.64 of a potential full quasi-steady
state rate of spread
North bushfire attack
This modelled fire burns downslope through Melaleuca quinquinervis woodland to attack from the north.
• Fuel loads used are the “Woodland” fuel loads of Australian Standard AS3959 of 15t/ha
surface fuel & 25t/ha total fuel.
• Separation of the house from the hazard: Various
• Slope in the vegetation = 1.00 with the classified vegetation upslope of the house
• Site slope = 1.00
• Fire run is 150m leading to a modelled rate of spread of 0.6 of a potential full quasi-steady
state rate of spread
South bushfire attack
This modelled fire burns up-slope through Melaleuca quinquinervis woodland to attack from the south.
• Fuel loads used are the “Woodland” fuel loads of Australian Standard AS3959 of 15t/ha
surface fuel & 25t/ha total fuel.
• Separation of the house from the hazard: Various
• Slope in the vegetation = 1.90
• Site slope = 1.90
• Fire run is 100m leading to a modelled rate of spread of 0.52 of a potential full quasi-steady
state rate of spread
