Ecological Assessment Report
Original PDF page 15, section 1. The text section number identifies this passage in the reader.
The clearing of 28m to provide a bushfire setback to the dwelling is less than 1.5 times the height
of the vegetation (which is >30m) and therefore the clearing of Rhodamnia rubescens and
supporting habitat is exempt under the NC Act.
Furthermore, the removal of one individual Rhodamnia rubescens does not constitute a
significant residual impact under the EPBC Act and therefore no further consideration of this
legislation is required.
Fauna
Information obtained from the Wildlife Online database and the EPBC Act protected matters
search indicates conservation significant fauna species may be present or have previously been
recorded in proximity to the development site.
There are 10 records of the following conservation significant fauna species being previously
identified on the Wildlife Online database within 2 km of the site:
• Adelotus brevis (tusked frog) – listed as vulnerable under the NC Act
• Anilios silvia (striped blind snake) – listed as near threatened under the NC Act
• Calyptorhynchus lathami lathami (glossy black cockatoo) – listed as vulnerable under the NC
Act
• Crinia tinnula (wallum froglet) – listed as vulnerable under the NC Act
• Hirundapus caudacutus (white throated needletail) – listed as vulnerable under the NC Act
and EPBC Act
• Litoria freycineti (wallum rocket frog) – listed as vulnerable under the NC Act
• Litoria olongburensis (wallum sedge frog) – listed as vulnerable under the NC Act and EPBC
Act
• Ornithoptera richmondia (Richmond birdwing) – listed as vulnerable under the NC Act
• Phascolarctos cinereus (koala) – listed as vulnerable under the NC Act and EPBC Act
• Pteropus poliocephalus (grey-headed flying fox) – listed as vulnerable under the EPBC Act
No incidental sightings of any conservation significant fauna species were made during the site
assessment. No suitable habitat is present within the site for any of the wallum ‘acid’ frogs
identified in the desktop assessment. Whilst suitable habitat is present for tusked frog within the
small creek to the south-west of the site, the proposed vegetation clearing is separated from this
area by approximately 80m of retained vegetation and therefore no impacts are expected to
occur to the species if it is present within the local area. A small number of Allocasuarina littoralis
(black she-oak) are present within the proposed clearing area. No evidence of utilisation by glossy
black cockatoos was observed (e.g., chewed orts) and no arboreal hollows suitable for breeding
purposes were observed within the site. No larval host plants (Pararistolochia praevenosa) for
the Richmond birdwing were observed within the site.
