ROCK DESCRIPTION AND CLASSIFICATION
CLASSIFICATION METHODS DEFECTS
Defects are fractures in the rock mass and include joints, faults, sheared
The rock classifications are broadly consistent with Australian Standard
planes, cleavages and bedding partings.
AS 1726, Geotechnical Site Investigation Code. Generally, rock is described by
the following: Types
J – Joint Cz – Crushed zone
Composition of rock material Rock name F – Fault Sz – Sheared zone
Grain size V – Vein Bz – Broken zone
Texture and fabric Fo – Foliation
Colour B – Bedding
