Dear Mayor and Councillors,

 

Re: MCU21/0110 Proposed hotel - Noosa Springs Golf & Spa Resort

 

	This email is a follow-up to the submission I made to Council in December 2021 regarding MCU21/0110.

	 

	 

	Further to the meeting with Mayor Claire Stewart and Councillor Amelia Lorentson at Noosa Springs in July 2021 and the release of the MCU21/0110 for a proposed hotel at Noosa Springs, please find attached a response to the most recent version of the MCU following the Applicant’s recent amendments.      

	 

	This response provides comments on the related bushfire and evacuation risk issues associated with the presence of the proposed hotel and reflects the concerns of the local residents in the Noosa Springs, Parkridge and Elysium residential communities.

	 

	It includes specific comments on submissions made by Rob Friend & Associates (dealing with bushfire considerations), and Gondwana Ecology Group (dealing with vegetation removal and replacement), plus some comments on risk-related matters of concern including the volume of traffic in the event of an evacuation.

	 

	 I encourage you to read and digest the contents of the document and to consider the impacts on, and implications for the local residents, the users of the facilities at the Golf and Spa Resort, and the guests and visitors to the hotel itself as a pre-requisite to addressing these concerns.

	 

	The MCU is a timely reminder of the imperative for Council to re-engage with all the relevant stakeholders (including the residents) as soon as possible to address these bushfire and evacuation risk-related matters which are of grave concern to the local community.
