MCU14/0106 Submission PM Support- Robyn Richards
Subject: Noosa Civic Expansion From: ROBYN RICHARDS Date: 2015-07-24T07:22:14+00:00 To: Mailbox Council Mail The proposed expansion of the Noosa Civic Shopping Centre which is based on 100 retail shops and 2 Super Markets is not supported by the performance of the current shops. From the time that the current Centre was completed to now there has been a high turn over of tenancies and considerable numbers of vacant shops. This is not to say there is not a need for future retail outlets in Noosa given the current situation where at least $70 million of Noosa trade and services are lost to the Southern Maroochydore Plaza precinct. It is obvious that the Noosa Civic expansion should be based on a single large department store to stem this loss of Noosa trade rather an expansion based on what we currently have and services some of the needs now and a future population capped Noosa. It is claimed that the future of Department Stores will be impacted by online retail however recent data shows this is not the case but rather shoppers will use online to check out types and prices using online and will complete the sale at a Department Store for touch, feel and size.
