Third Service Station on Eumundi Road
According to the local news last evening you have asked residents what they think about another service station being located close to another two, which have recently been erected on Eumundi Road, Noosaville.
I feel two new service stations was one too many, three is really over the top, and does nothing to enhance the entrance to the built-up areas of the Noosa Shire and our Internationally listed UNESCO Noosa Biosphere Reserve. They could bring a wrong impression of Noosa to those coming off the Bruce Highway at Eumundi, or heading up to Eumundi Road or if entering the area and via Water Hay Drive and coming up Eenie Creek Road to Eumundi Road.
Has research been done to see if we really need this number of service stations? The recent addition of another two has done nothing to bring petrol prices down in the area. Those who thought competition might do this, have been found to be completely wrong.
All of these service stations are bringing more big and multi-national business to the area, is this what we really want? It is to be remembered that we were against Masters Stores building here and what a good move that turned out to be. Part of the reason for this was that the area was well catered for with Bunning’s and Mitre-10 Stores already in the area. Surely this is also something to consider before approving a DA for this project now before council. If research shows and we are sure we need another service station it should be put in an area where it is needed and where the population will make it work. Surely this is not in close proximity to another two service stations, who are competing with each other for the business. There is only so much money to go round, another service station will not necessarily mean there is more money in the area to be spent here.
The Noosa Council is very much part of and backers of the Zero Emissions Noosa (ZEN) initiative encouraging residents to join in helping us to reach Zero Emissions in Noosa. I hope the council take this into consideration, and asks themselves before approving an application for yet another service station very close to two others in our area, does this fit in with their aim to Zero Emissions.
