Native Foresters Table 5: Crown cover estimate table (DES, 2022) 4.3.2 Assessment of Characteristic Species For existing vegetation to be remnant, the EDL of the existing vegetation is to be made up of species characteristic of the normal EDL (DES, 2022). From the ‘Methodology for surveying and mapping regional ecosystems and vegetation communities in Queensland’ (Neldner et al. 2022). The guideline states that sub-dominant EDL canopy species from the reference site data can be assessed as dominant species for an RE if dominant species are present in low density and if EDL canopy structure benchmarks meet the criteria. During field work canopy species within the plot sites were identified and recorded on Queensland Herbarium Regional Ecosystem Assessment Kit (DES, 2022) data sheets for comparison against dominant and characteristic species from each RE reference site. Following field data collection and analysis, RE Kit Assessment datasheets were compiled in preparation to be submitted with raw datasheets and relevant GIS files to the Queensland Herbarium for review in relation to a change of remnant status.
