Native Foresters
5.2 Offset Site - OA’s Condition Summary
Generally, vegetation throughout the offset site is in good ecological condition, with RE types consistent with revegetation plan aims,
and some encroachment of 12.3.11 in low lying areas directly adjacent to Lake Macdonald. The mixed nature of the revegetation
growth has led to some areas lacking the distinct characteristics of one single RE, and as such the majority of OA’s have been assessed
as containing heterogeneous ecosystems.
Changes in council structure associated with amalgamation and then subsequent de-amalgamation have impeded the delivery of the
offset project in some instances, however generally the planting and maintenance of sites has been undertaken across the OA’s, with
natural regeneration and recent high annual rainfall favouring site growth and development to remnant status. OA’s 17,18 and 19 were
not able to be progressed due to access issues associated with adjoining private properties.
Scattered weedy incursions primarily composed of Camphour laural, lantana and pasture grasses were recorded in all OA’s and plot
sites, and targeted weed maintenance is required throughout the offset sites to ensure non-native species do not become established
in the understorey of OA vegetation. Large woody species, however, were in relatively low abundance and were not deemed to pose
an ecological threat to the rehabilitation of the vegetation within the OA’s to remnant status.
The offset site RE Assessment – OA’s condition summary in relation to the Noosa Council ORP report is provided in Table 9.
