MAYORAL MINUTES · 2026-07-16 Mayoral Minute - DRFA Funding
In response to the proposed changes, the Queensland Government has launched a Disaster
Funding Petition calling on the Australian Government to retain the current Disaster Recovery
Funding Arrangements and maintain funding arrangements that recognise Queensland's significant
disaster exposure.
The petition forms part of a broader statewide advocacy campaign opposing the proposed reforms
and highlighting the significant financial burden they would place on Queensland communities, state
and local governments. Given Noosa Council's reliance on DRFA funding to restore critical
infrastructure, support community recovery and deliver resilience and betterment projects, it is
appropriate that Council support this initiative and publicly advocate for the retention of equitable
and sustainable disaster recovery funding arrangements.
The petition is available at: https://listen2qld.com/disaster-funding
Providing a submission in response to the Discussion Paper is critical to ensuring communities like
Noosa continue to receive the support they need to recover, rebuild and strengthen their resilience
in the face of increasing natural disaster impacts. Council should advocate strongly for a funding
framework that recognises Queensland's unique disaster exposure, maintains equitable
Commonwealth support, and enables local communities to recover quickly and effectively when
disaster strikes.
