What is TRAQ
TRAQ is an ISA qualification program that trains arborists how to use the methodologies outlined in
the ISA Best Management Practices for Tree Risk Assessment. This qualification promotes the safety
of people and property by providing a standardized and systematic process for assessing tree risk.
Report Limitations
This Arboricultural Report has been done to a Basic Assessment as defined by the International
Society of Arboriculture. This level of assessment will be noted which assessment was used thru out
the report.

Mobile: 0431586371 Email: [email protected] Web: www.australianconsultarborist.com.au Height 18m- Plus Crown Width -10m plus Slope of ground -32’ Soil Type – Sand Observation This Corkwood tree is growing on the side of a sandy based soil slope of approx. 32 degrees and it has a major bias downhill. The crowns centre is approximately 8 to 10 metres from the centre of its root plate (difficult to measure accurately due to topography and structures). There is the very poor taper of the truck to the root plate and reaction growth to the increased load by this phototrophic growing tree, primarily no laying down of supporting wood on either the tension or compression side. The crown has a lot of epicormic growth present which I interpret to be a direct correlation to the root system under severe load and stress. As identified in the TRAQ assessment this tree is in the process of failure although not necessarily immediately if left with no mitigation response to the issues identified this tree will fail and as the targets also identified in he TRAQ assessment are all in the target zone and the potential impact is very significant to both property and life. Mitigation Options Identified in TRAQ Assessment Option 1: Complete Removal This is an absolute way to eliminate the risk and to protect all identified targets. Option 2: End Weight Crown Reduction This is an option but not a favourable one due to the minor pruning able to be done as per AS 4373-2007 and the balancing act between helping and hindering. Also the loss of canopy to aide with wind dampening. As with all pruning this will stress the tree and this tree is already under load at present and these works will increase this stress and will not decrease enough load off its root system to really help correct the imbalance this tree has at present.

Recommendation
I recommend complete removal of the Corkwood Tree and replacement with a structurally
sounder species able to adapt to this site and the soil conditions. This was an option that the
owner had wanted to avoid but the risk and targets are too critical to ignore this obvious
issue. The time wasted in potential remedial pruning of this tree with the very extensive
lean / bias to the road and the tree still fail when this could be removed at the earliest
opportunity and replaced. This risk is more heighten by the loss of the Ficus in last years
weather event which both offered protection and now with it gone the exposure is evident.
Kind regards
