RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Community Development Manager to the Services &
Organisation Committee Meeting dated 6 December 2016 and
A. Note the sports field audits undertaken in the Noosa Shire;
B. Agree to allocate $780 from the Community Grants program to provide membership for 12
sports clubs to the Sports Turf Association QLD ($65 each);
C. Agree to allow community and sporting clubs to dispose of sports turf green waste, which
includes excessive thatch, from their fields to Council’s approved landfill facility at no
charge; and
D. Consider allocating an additional $10,000 per annum for the next three years to the sports
field maintenance grants to fund sports field audit initiatives in the 2017/18 budget process.
REPORT
1. Background
Maintenance of sporting facilities is a major concern for many groups who are run by volunteers.
Many clubs are struggling with the cost of maintaining facilities to an adequate standard and
sourcing appropriate skilled turf specialists to undertake the maintenance at minimum costs. In
order to assist, Noosa Council has a Sports Field Maintenance Funding program where eligible
sporting clubs receive part funding for on-going maintenance of sporting fields. This funding has
been in place for three years.
To complement Council’s three year sports field maintenance funding, an audit of the sports
fields in Noosa has just been undertaken. The audit, which was conducted by an independent
Sports Turf Consultant, provided each sports club with an individualised report, and a proposed
12-month maintenance plan for the following organisations to implement:
• Noosa Lions Football Club Inc.
• Noosa District Softball Association Inc.
• Noosa District Rugby Union Club Inc.
• Noosa Touch Association Inc.
• Noosa Australian Football Club Inc.
• Tewantin Noosa Cricket Club Inc.
• Pomona Cooroy and District AFL Club Inc.
• Cooroy Eumundi Cricket Club Inc.
• Pomona Cooran Amateur Rugby League Football Club Inc.
• Cooroora United Football Club Inc.
• Noosa District Rugby League Club Inc.
• Noosa District Junior Rugby league Club Inc.
