Nitrogen and phosphorus levels were adequate and high respectively. When next applying a
complete slow release granular fertiliser the product should contain supplementary potassium,
magnesium and Sulphur. Phosphorous should not be added until levels are reduced.
11. Pests: Root development for such a soil profile was poor. It is likely that nematodes are
present within the rootzone stunting root development (Plate le). Analytical testing should
be undertaken to confirm this.
Couch mite (Acacia cynodonsensis) damage is visible across the playing surface. It is difficult
to identify if couch mites are still present within the turf canopy. Couch mites are small in
size (mostly less than 1 mm in length as adults, with many less than 0.25 mm), however the
pest can cause significant damage to the turf and impede recovery following wear or
renovations. Chemical control can be used if the population exceeds threshold levels.
12. It is recommended that a | tone bulker bag be kept on site for use to lightly topdress or fill
small voids each week. Do not buy bulk sand/soil and store it on the field or along the
fenceline (Plate 1a).
