The successful growth of plants within the rehabilitation area will rely on careful and appropriate
preparation of the area prior to planting and the maintenance of the site. The following matters will be
addressed:
• Weeds (mainly grass) will be treated using appropriate methods prior to any planting within the
treated area (see Table 6).
• Existing rubbish and other foreign material will be removed;
• Planting locations will consider existing established native plants (no trees are to be planted within
5m of existing trees);
• A blanket covering of aged forest mulch will be applied to the entire area (75mm deep). Jute
matting/jute squares or jute netting over mulch will be used on the creek bank where high flows
could wash loose mulch away.
