METHODS DETAILS
Basal bark This method is suitable for treating thin-barked woody weeds and trees that a reactively growing and not stressed. Using this technique, the
spraying stem or trunk must be sprayed with oil-soluble herbicide (e.g. Biosafe) from ground level to a height of 300mm.
Using a brush and starting a t the base of each stem, paint all the way around each stem to a height of 300 mm. To allow herbicide uptake,
ensure the treated area is not disturbed for 24 hours. Note that, depending on the species, this technique can take up to two months to get
results. Application to large trees, may result in the death and shedding of branches which may pose a hazard. As such this method is not
recommended in areas where branches could cause damage.
Foliar This technique is suitable for treating grasses, herbs and shrubs up to 6 metres tall and involves spraying individual and small clumps of
spraying weeds with diluted herbicide.
Avoid spraying on rainy or windy days and make sure the plants a reactively growing. Ideal conditions for spraying are immediately after
rain and once all the dew has evaporated. In terms of application technique:
1. Spray close to the target plants to a void spray drift onto other valuable (i.e. native) plants.
2. Spray to cover all leaves and stems to the point of visible wetness.
3. Use short sweeping strokes.
4. Use frog friendly adjuvant/surfactant (such as Nufarm Bonus®).
5. Start from the far corner of the infestation working away from sprayed areas.
6. Be systematic to avoid spraying the same area twice.
7. 7. Use Dye marker (such as Herbicide) to aid with targeted application of herbicide as required.
