7.0 RECOMMENDATIONS

Waterways and wetlands

    1. Erosion and sediment control measures should be implemented during works to
minimise adverse effects to Skyring Creek.

Native flora

      2. Healthy native trees should be retained wherever possible to provide shade, bank
stability, and to buffer the impacts (noise, dust, litter etc.) from the surrounding land
         uses.
      3. Impacts to the Structural Root Zone (SRZ) of retained trees should be avoided
where possible, or an arborist assessment should be undertaken to manage the
health of impacted trees. These trees provide an important link in the flora corridor
and provide essential habitat for fauna species that inhabit the area.
      4. If the stag on the southern side of the creek requires removal, it should be relocated
to suitable adjacent vegetation, for fauna habitat.
      5. Any loss of Koala habitat trees (southern part of survey area) should be avoided,
or offset at a 3:1 ratio as per the Queensland Environmental Offsets Policy.

Native fauna

      6. A Fauna Spotter Catcher will be required to conduct a pre-clear search to relocate
any native fauna found, and during vegetation clearing within and around the
waterway to relocate any native fauna found.
      7. Works should be conducted during the dry season (usually Autumn and Winter)
where possible and outside of high rainfall events to avoid coinciding with potential
threatened fauna breeding events including Vulnerable listed amphibian species,
Tusked frogs (September to May), and Special Least Concern Platypus.
      8. Any amphibian species are to be handled in accordance with the Technical Manual
for Wildlife management, Interim hygiene protocol for handling amphibians (DEHP
2016) and all relocated fauna species released into the most appropriate nearby
         habitat area.
      9. Design to include koala “grid” on the access driveway at the koala fence, to reduce
the risk of koala’s in the area entering the Old Bruce Highway road reserve.

Fauna habitat

      10. Habitat structures including coarse woody debris should be retained in situ where
          possible, for fauna refuge.
      11. Where disturbance to existing habitat structures cannot be reasonably avoided, all
stumps, logs, stags and coarse woody debris should be carefully relocated to an
undisturbed habitat area nearby in consultation with a Fauna spotter catcher.
      12. Any hollows present in stags or live trees that require removal should be relocated
          into adjacent bushland.
      13. Machinery access should be undertaken in areas of minimal vegetation cover
where possible, such as the existing cleared areas south-east of the impact area.
      14. The work plan should ensure that depressions or burrows are not created and left
behind, which would provide breeding habitat for Cane toads.
