                                                                                  Native Foresters

Skyring Creek which flows east to west is approximately 6-8m wide and 0.1-0.4m deep at
the proposed culvert crossing location. The creek contains clear flowing water, and a
mixture of native riparian vegetation and non-native vegetation occurs along the banks with
mature trees adjacent to the west.

Vegetation within the IA is mapped as non-remnant, high value regrowth (HVR) and
remnant. The survey area is surrounded by:
   • remnant vegetation lining Skyring Creek,
   • road to the south-west (Old Bruce Highway).
   • rural properties and non-remnant vegetation to the north and east of the impact
       area

Topography at the survey area can be described as gently undulating. The site has a
westerly aspect, and it consists of a gully with a meandering watercourse. Elevation at the
site is approximately 90-93m ASL. Underlying geology has been mapped by the State of
Queensland as Land zone 3 - Recent Quaternary alluvial systems, including closed
depressions, paleo-estuarine deposits currently under freshwater influence, inland lakes
and associated wave built lunettes. (Wilson and Taylor, 2012).

Existing impacts to the ecological integrity of the site include:

      i) Soil erosion and waterway bank destabilisation,
ii) High flow in the waterway due to an increase of cleared/ impervious surfaces in
the catchment resulting in higher flow velocities,
iii) Degradation of water quality in the waterway due to catchment sources of
                nutrients, contaminants and suspended sediments,
      iv) Moderate weed infestations, and
      v) Edge effects (e.g., increased light from vegetation clearing; increased wind and
air movement; soil exposure) that reduce ecosystem integrity and resilience.

1.3 Proposed works

The owner is proposing to construct a culvert crossing and driveway to provide access from
the Old Bruce Highway to a private property, 36 Roses Road. The proposed access will
involve the installation of a concrete culvert crossing at Skyring Creek. Refer to Appendix
A for the concept design plans of the proposed driveway and culvert upgrade project.

The proposed works involve the following:

      • Clearing of vegetation dominated by exotic grasses along length of proposed
driveway, and minor clearing of overhanging vegetation at the culvert crossing.
      • Construction of gravel driveway (approx. 3m wide by 200m long), and a concrete
             culvert crossing at Skyring Creek.

C&T have not yet finalised the detailed design, timing or duration of works.
