10.4 Change of Status
A LfW property’s status may change over time. For example, a property might move from Working
Towards Registration to Registered if the habitat on the property improves in condition or increases
in size over time.
Although uncommon, a LfW property may change status from Registered to Working Towards
Registration such as if a property is sub-divided, developed or undergoes a major land use change
whereby the habitat on the property diminishes in condition or decreases in size.
A property may change status from either Registered or Working Towards Registration to De-
registered based on the reasons articulated in Section 10.3.
A property may change status from De-registered to either Registered or Working Towards
Registration if the owner decides to re-engage with the LfW program or a new owner purchases the
property and wishes to join LfW. Such a property would be considered an initial assessment and the
LfW Lifecycle of the property would start at Step 1.
It is the goal that all new Working Towards Registration properties, over time, can and will become
Registered. Councils can assist this transition through:
• Articulating practical and manageable conservation tasks (a ‘roadmap’) that the landholder
can undertake over time. This advice will be provided at the council LfW Officer’s discretion
and may take into account the property’s ecological condition, the landholder’s ability, skills,
resources, and a reasonable timeframe for ecological change.
• Offering regular property revisits depending on the landholder’s circumstances.
• Offering incentives or grants to support on-ground conservation works.
At the discretion of the council LfW Officer, a Working Towards Registration property will move to
Registered status if it meets the Eligibility Criteria for Registered. This status change can only occur
in response to a property Revisit (Section 7.4).
Local Governments recognise that there are Working Towards Registration properties within the
LfWSEQ program that joined the program years ago and will never meet the Eligibility Criteria for a
Registered property. These legacy Working Towards Registration properties will be De-registered
from the LfWSEQ program when a change of ownership occurs.
