GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 16 MAY 2016

Overlays The site is classified 100% as “environmental protection” under the
Biodiversity overlay of the Noosa Plan. The vegetation is also “regulated
vegetation” under the Vegetation Management Act with 60% classified as
endangered and the balance adjacent to the cemetery classified as “not of
                           concern”.

Any proposed operational works would require referral to the State for the
“endangered” vegetation. There is development potential in the “not of
concern” area which is able to be managed by Council.
Improvements The site contains significant building structures including lecture room,
caretaker’s residence and a substantial kiln together with other site
improvements (e.g. internal driveway and pathways).
 Build year 2003/04

The site is bound by the Tewantin Cemetery, Noosa-Tewantin Golf Club and Noosa District
Sports Complex as shown in Fig 1 below.

In November, 2012 the LNP State Government adopted a taskforce report that resulted in the
closing of 13 campuses including the Tewantin site while 12 other sites were merged between
Central Queensland University and the Central Queensland Institute of TAFE. The Tewantin
Campus has been vacant since 1 July, 2014 leading to community concerns about the loss of a
valuable education and training facility and various ideas being floated for reactivation of use of
the site.
