Ecological Assessment Report for Proposed Hinterland Adventure Playground – Noosa Shire Council
August 2109 by Noosa & District Landcare
3.2.2 Threatened Fauna
Potential species given the vegetation and landscape position, that are considered threatened under
the NC Act are listed in table 3
Table 3: Potential species listed under NC Act
Scientific Name Common Name NC status
Ornithoptera richmondia Richmond Birdwing Butterfly V
Litoria pearsoniana Pearson’s Frog/Cascade Frog V
Adelotus brevis Tusked Frog V
Calyptorhynchus lathami Glossy Black-Cockatoo (Eastern) V
At the time of the survey no individuals of the species in Table 3 were observed, however due to the
survey being held in winter, detection of frogs and the Ornithoptera richmondia (Richmond Birdwing
Butterfly) is unlikely and/or difficult.
It needs to be outlined that these species have been sighted in past observations at LMS and
absence during this survey could be due to seasonal timing.
3.3 General Observations
3.3.1 Bird
A number of bird species were observed during the survey with no listed threatened species
identified. A pair of Calyptorhynchus funereus (Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo), listed as ‘Secure Least
Concern’ under the NCA, were observed feeding on Banksia robur (Swamp Banksia) seed capsules
outside of the Bird transect (Figure 6)
