3.0 ECOLOGICAL FEATURES

For ease of reference, where the common name of a flora or fauna species has been used for the first
time in this report, the scientific name using Binomial Nomenclature will follow once, italicised in
brackets. If that species name is used again in the text, only the common name will be used.
Descriptions of vegetation and vegetation communities to follow are consistent with that of the
Queensland Herbarium taxonomy and methodology. Ecological features and constraints that have
been identified within the site have been represented in a series of site photographs that have been
provided in Section 3.2 of this report.

3.1 Geology and Topography
In general, the site is characterized by sloping terrain falling from the northern and southern site
boundaries towards the waterway which traverses through the southern central area of the site. The
elevation of the site ranges from approximately 117 m Australian Height Datum (AHD) to
approximately 112 m AHD. There are two underlying geological deposits for the site as shown in
Figure 4, below. The geological deposit located in the central portion of the site (indicated in purple)
is Quarternary age ‘GIS - Sth Qld Rawdon’ and is described as ‘Clay, silt, sand, gravel; flood-plain
alluvium’. The second geological deposit located in the northern and southern areas of the site
(indicated in pink) is Tertiary age ‘GIS - Sth Qld Rawdon’ which is described as ‘Shale, sandstone,
conglomerate, basalt’.
