In regards to the matter of the short term application for 3 Robert St, Noosaville, as a resident of Janet St who has lived in this neighbourhood for twenty years, I have no objection what so ever to the proposed change of accommodation.

Over the twenty years of living in this neighbourhood, houses have been torn down and units developed, trees chopped down and multiple dwellings erected. There has been a steady increase in use of the river parkland and this has been promoted through Council development of the area.

The neighbourhood has always included units with holiday makers, short term accommodation for those staying locally for a few months seeking warmer weather from the Southern States and New Zealand. Its a fact of life living in this neighbourhood that dwellings in this area do in fact house a mixture of long term, short term and overnight accommodation.

Three Robert St was for many years the garage and large back yard for a previous owner occupier, Dr Kelly who lived on the corner until his land was sold. Units could have been developed on the block or a single dwelling. As it happens, the new single dwelling has been built. I do not believe its application for change of use to short term accommodation will have any detrimental effect and or affect other owner occupiers in the area.

As for the argument that this change of use will affect the limited availability for rental accommodation, those living in houses in the area are primarily the home owners. There are likely more owner occupiers in the area now, however anyone moving into this area recently who now complain they do not like the proposed change of accommodation use is a little like the story of those who live near the airport but complain they don’t want the increased flights.... Essentially they knew what was in the area before buying into it, but now complain.

There are a number of Airbnb houses within the area who do not create problems for the neighbours. I have a few around me and have never had a problem with them.

As for the increased traffic argument, this is twisted nonsense. The increased traffic is primarily associated with the increase of patrons using river parkland, many of whom are locals from Tewantin and surrounding areas. Short term patrons may have their own transport but may also use that transport to visit other areas both locally and surrounding areas while staying here.

In summary, I believe the change to short term accommodation for 3 Robert St, should be approved and is fitting for the current area.

Yours sincerely
Jane Halliday (Macreadie)
Owner, occupier
14 Janet St,
Noosaville.
