The Surf Club Sunshine Beach
Environmental Noise Level Impact Assessment of Proposed Refurbished and Extended
Sunshine Beach Surf Life Saving Club, Duke Street, Sunshine Beach Page 16 of 31
For the Gaming Room the greatest potential noise impact is relative to the closest residential to the
west. The amplified music from the machines in the Gaming Room should not exceed:
• daytime and evening: 65 dB(C) + 28 (3m to separation distance of 72m) + 5 (inside to outside
via open door to DOSA) = 98 dB(C) LCeq,adj,T @ 3 metres from the noise
source;
• night-time: 60 + 28 + 5 = 93 dB(C) LCeq,adj,T @ 3 metres from the noise source.
NOISE CONTROL
Based on the measured ambient noise levels at the closest residential to the north and south of the
Sunshine Beach Surf Life Saving Club noise limits have been determined for the daytime, evening and
night-time for the closest residential, which are to the north, west and south of the subject site.
For all potential steady state/continuous noise sources, as well as all potential time varying noise
sources, the noise limits are complied with for the complete 24-hour day. Therefore, for all of these
noise sources, no additional noise control measures are required.
For amplified entertainment maximum permissible noise levels have been calculated relative to 3
metres from the speakers to achieve compliance with the dB(C) noise limits at the closest residential.
Provided these maximum amplified music noise levels are not exceeded, no further noise control
measures are required for amplified entertainment, be it inside or externally on The Deck or Upper
Court area.
CONCLUSIONS
It is proposed to fully refurbish the Sunshine Beach Surf Life Saving Club, Duke Street, Sunshine Beach
(Lot 126 on CP 845336 and Lot 5 on SP 269274), which will also include some minor extension work (in
comparison to the current footprint of the Club building, for the different floor levels). Noosa Council
have issued an information request in response to this proposed refurbishment project (dated 15 June
29017 and Council reference MCU17/0024), and part of this information request requires the
preparation of a noise report.
This report has been prepared in response to the Noosa Council Information Request and includes two
detailed 7-day ambient noise assessments from the closest residential to the north (monitoring location
A) and the closest residential to the south (monitoring location B) of the Sunshine Beach Surf Life
Saving Club, noise limit criteria, typical source noise levels, source noise levels calculated to the closest
residences, comparison with the various noise limits and, if any required noise control measures.
Potential noise sources for the refurbished Sunshine Beach Surf Life Saving Club are:
• steady state noise sources:
o airconditioning plant;
o refrigeration plant;
o exhaust fans (kitchen and toilet);
• time varying noise sources:
o patrons laughing, talking and yelling;
o carpark activities:
▪ car driving;
▪ car door closing;
▪ car engine starting;
▪ people laughing and talking;
▪ delivery vehicle;
